I am a retired electrical engineer and engineering manager. My professional career in both the consulting and oilfield industries emphasized implementing automation and advancing the application of technology. My family includes generations of educators. Our adult children and all our grandchildren have been participants in King’s Gate summer programs. All three of our granddaughters are currently enrolled in King’s Gate early childhood programs. I am an outspoken advocate of King’s Gate’s culture, ministry, educational philosophy, and programs. My personal ministry includes being actively involved in encouraging, advising, and assisting our school leadership. I also enjoy volunteering at the school with everything from popping popcorn for special events, to helping with office procedures, to helping with strategies for furthering the King’s Gate experience. In addition to my degree in electrical engineering, I earned an MBA from OU.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the LORD, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the LORD as a reward. It is the LORD Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24
I moved to OKC in 1977, joined Our Lord’s Community Church, and became familiar with the newly organized King’s Gate School. I championed their early mission to mainstream special needs children and serve as an outreach ministry to the community. While serving as the Our Lord’s staff administration liaison on the King’s Gate Board for many years, I worked with Wyndi and Shenae as the school grew. In 2015, I joined the board as a voting member. Both of my sons, Matt and Nate, attended King’s Gate Preschool in the late 1980s. My husband Robert, from OUHSC, serves as visiting scientist to King’s Gate. Both my husband and myself are grateful to be part of a school that has remained true to providing a loving atmosphere that encourages learning and opportunity for each child to grow in knowledge and learn to live in GOD’s Kingdom. We look forward with anticipation to increased growth in enrollment and the continued addition of grades to the school.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Sherry Willis became a King’s Gate board member in January 2017. She first began to hear about King’s Gate through friends whose children attended there and were very pleased with their children’s experience. As she learned more about the school, she was very drawn to the school’s emphasis on providing a loving, gentle, Christ-like environment for the students that is so evident at King’s Gate. She was also very impressed with the small class sizes, high teacher to student ratio, and quality of teaching. So when offered the opportunity to serve on the board, Sherry was delighted to have an opportunity to help accomplish the mission of this wonderful school. She feels that King’s Gate is a blessing to the community in the way it nurtures children while educating them with excellence. Sherry has two adult daughters and was married to her wonderful husband, Bob, for thirty-one years until he went to be with the LORD in October 2014 after an eight month battle with brain cancer. Sherry looks forward to all that GOD will accomplish through King’s Gate in the future.
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have (perfect) peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer (take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted)! For I have overcome the world. (I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.)” John 16:33 Amplified Bible
I have grown to understand King’s Gate and their role in children’s lives through our own kids and their attendance at King’s Gate. My desire to serve on the board was driven by wanting to help King’s Gate expand the number of children and lives they impact as I can clearly see all the positives that happen with GOD’s help at this school. My wife Julie and I were married in 2003 and we have two wonderful children, Makenzie and Zachary, who attend King’s Gate.
I attended King’s Gate for preschool almost 30 years ago. I still remember many of the songs and have taught them to my kids. I’m thrilled about the opportunity to come full circle and serve on the board at King’s Gate. I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2009 with a degree in business management and now work as a commercial banker with First United Bank. I married my beautiful wife Salem in 2010. We have a three year old daughter named Hallie and a 9 month old son named Heston. I believe in the ministry and the vision of the school and I am excited to play a part. I truly believe the LORD will do amazing things with the seeds we have the opportunity to plant in these kids and their families.
“… give thanks in all circumstances; for this is GOD’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
I started my career with King’s Gate in 1996 as the Director of the part time programs. In 2003, I became the Director of King’s Gate Christian School and now I have the privilege of serving as the Head of Schools. I received my undergraduate degree in business from the University of Central Oklahoma where I also completed my master’s degree in education. I married the love of my life in 1986 and we celebrated thirty two years this year! We have one daughter and we enjoy spending time with her and her husband. I have admired King’s Gate for the way the staff loves and respects children since our daughter attended here as a preschooler. It is humbling to be part of something so special, to be counted among such a gifted and loving staff and to see our GOD work in the lives of so many every single day. I am convinced, more than ever, that King’s Gate is an exceptional place where staff and families work together to empower students for their purpose. Thank you for sharing your family with us!
“You shall love the LORD your GOD with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Deuteronomy 6:5
“For we are GOD’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10
I joined the King’s Gate staff in 2008, and love being a part of this loving, Christian environment. I received my undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University and my masters in educational leadership at the University of Central Oklahoma. My wonderful husband Keith and I have married since 1991. We are blessed with two sons, Tyler & Brady who we enjoy cheering on at their various sporting events, and who attended King’s Gate. I am passionate about learning, and feel privileged to be a part of this growing school.
“May the GOD of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
I decided to serve on the King’s Gate board because I am excited about the future partnership between King’s Gate and Surrey Hills Baptist Church. I currently serve on staff at Surrey Hills as Minister of Administration and Missions where I have been a member for 17 years and on staff for 7. My wife Michelle has served as the Children’s minister for 14 years and we have always known that there is a need for Kingdom education in far northwest part of Oklahoma City including Piedmont and north Yukon. We were very excited when King’s Gate approached us about developing a CDC on our campus. Watching GOD move and develop this partnership has been a blessing to Michelle and me as well as the Surrey Hills congregation. I am blessed to watch GOD impact the community through King’s Gate at Surrey Hills.
In addition to ministry at Surrey Hills I serve on the Board of Endgadi Ministries International a ministry in Guatemala that works to transform the youth of Guatemala into godly men and women. I also serve as a volunteer Pastoral Aide at Mercy hospital helping minister to patients and their families.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of GOD.” Romans 12:2
