On Sunday April 7, 2019, a packed sanctuary lifted praises together for all the work God is doing through a beautiful partnership between Surrey Hills Baptist Church (SHBC) and King’s Gate Christian School. King’s Gate Head of Schools, Wyndi Bradley, and SHBC Pastor Wendell Lang both shared about how GOD is moving and working through the partnership. “King’s Gate helped lead me to the decision to fully devote myself to Christ and I was baptized this year,” Cora Morrison said in her student testimony. “Thanks to this church, I am able to stay here and learn more about GOD,” the 7th grader went on to say.
Following the church service, the celebration continued in the newly constructed Next Generation Center. Greg Peters, SHBC’s Minister of Administration, led everyone in a word of prayer to dedicate the facility to the LORD before the ribbon was cut. Watching those more mature in the faith stand alongside children who, in some cases, were barely even tall enough to reach the ribbon was moving.
During vision-casting for this project, Surrey Hills Baptist leaders clung to Psalm 78:4, “We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done.” This vision aligned perfectly with King’s Gate’s call to expand the school through 12th grade. The Next Generation Center will serve as a catalyst for educating generations of Christ followers . “Kingdom education provides the next generation with a solid foundation because the same truths and values are taught at home, at church and at school,” King’s Gate Principal, Shenae Nicholson, explained.
The first phase of construction resulted in the 20,000 sq. feet, two-story building. The first floor of the Next Generation Center boasts a state-of-the-art science lab for hands-on learning, 5 additional classrooms, and a fortified room for severe weather. A capital campaign is currently underway to raise the $600,000 dollars needed to begin construction on the unfinished second floor. Meeting this goal will provide the classroom space necessary for both SHBC and King’s Gate to reach more young people with the life-changing love of Jesus.
Seeing this space for yourself is the only way to experience the excitement about all that GOD is doing through the Next Generation Center. Since joy is doubled when shared, you are welcome to come by for a personal tour and get information on how you can partner with us to see the Next Generation Center to completion!
