Technology in the Classroom

In Preschool Primer classroom, we use the Smartboard to incorporate our circle time, to enhance learning and it is available to the children after center time as one of their centers. The students learn about calendars, weather, letters, sign language, and much more using this interactive technology.

In Preschool, PK4 and Pre-K we use technology to help understand concepts. Mostly technology is found when we are using our SmartBoard at group times. We use it to help with letter recognition and sounds, as well as, number recognition. We also use it to reinforce our weekly theme and our words of the week through short videos, songs and interactive activities. During our free choice centers students are able to play on our desktop computers. We use educational websites like Starfall or ABCmouse.

In Kindergarten we use technology in many fun ways in the classroom!  We have a morning meeting where we use the SmartBoard for visual images as well as songs and interactive games.  Our students enjoy “playing” Everyday Math games to supplement the skills we learn in our math lessons.  The students learn to understand the way computers work and are often able to help us work through technical difficulties! We have a computer center where the children rotate through for an opportunity to play some math games as an opportunity for math practice. They also use the computers to support literacy skills and comprehension through interactive computer activities. Here they are also able to identify the sight words we have learned in class.

In First Grade, we use technology daily and in fun ways!  We use our SMARTBoard to reinforce skills that we are learning or if something new comes up we use it for on the spot research!  Our students love using our SMARTBoard to enrich our Everyday Math curriculum.  They play fun learning games like Monster Mash and Top It.  Tons of skills are covered using these educational websites. We use our tablets to read our Bible using the Bible App as well as playing reading skills games such as Starfall and Epic.  Our students are able to use our computers and Chrome books for reading as well as assessment. We use STAR Early Literacy to assess and create an individual assessment plan for each of our students!

In the second grade, SMARTboards are not only used as projectors and whiteboards in our classrooms.  Students engage in lessons by manipulating the information being presented.   Classroom computers are used in several different ways.  STAR Reading and Math assessments are given on a quarterly basis to all students.  The program Xtramath is used to help students with basic fact mastery.  Reading A to Z is used to give students reading practice on their individual reading levels.  Students also use tablets in the classroom during times that their work is completed to play math, reading, and science games.

In the upper elementary classes and middle school classes, we integrate the use of technology into all areas of curriculum. Chromebooks are used to practice keyboarding concepts, as well as for research and to produce reports. The SMARTboard is used as a way for students to display their work, as well as to navigate through and experience lessons in an interactive format. Students also use Google Classroom to help organize assignments and create paperless documents. Using this format also provides an introduction to emailing and communicating electronically.
