“King’s Gate is a little bubble of hope, encouragement and so much love! Through the guidance of her teachers, our daughter has blossomed into a little spiritual warrior
and we know her future at King’s Gate is full of promise.”

CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

It is our mission to take the love of Jesus Christ to the community by partnering with families to equip the whole student for their individual calling through a rich, experiential education.

We believe in hands-on learning as well as relational educational experiences that address the needs of the whole child: spiritual, emotional, cognitive, and physical.

The King’s Gate Child Development Center (CDC) accepts children aged 12 months through Kindergarten at two locations: Village Baptist Church and Surrey Hills Baptist Church. We offer Early Bird care at both locations and Awesome Afternoon extended care at Surrey Hills for an additional charge. Preschool and Pre-K students at Surrey Hills may enroll in both before and after school programs.

Since 1977, King’s Gate has promoted the child’s total development: spiritual, social/emotional, cognitive, and physical. We encourage in each child a love of GOD, a positive view of self, creative self-expression, an attitude of cooperation and sharing, and an expanding knowledge of our world. As the only early childhood program accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), in the Oklahoma City area, we maintain the highest standards for our classrooms.

King’s Gate classrooms exceed the appropriate child/teacher ratios set forth by state and accreditation standards. Our early education lead teachers hold a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree, or are credentialed in early childhood education or child development.

Biblical Teaching

We believe the Bible is the true and inspired Word of GOD. Biblical teaching, values, and principles are integrated into all subjects, daily school activities, and experiences.

Age-Appropriate Learning

We provide a safe age-appropriate learning environment rich in experimentation, peer and adult interaction, diversity, play, exploration, and a balance of routine and novelty.

Trust and Belonging

Each child’s individual needs are met in an atmosphere that develops a sense of trust and belonging, where their ideas are valued.

Two Qualified Teachers

While most preschools employ only one teacher and an assistant in their classrooms, King’s Gate employs two qualified teachers in every classroom.

Curriculum

Our curriculum exceeds Oklahoma Academic Standards and ACSI accreditation requirements while providing a variety of fun and exciting activities within a routine that provides care and comfort. It’s developmental, experiential, and follows a constructivist methodology, defining benchmark goals as students participate in various activities each day. These benchmark goals cover four developmental areas: spiritual, social/emotional, cognitive, and physical.

Toddlers/Primer

Our toddlers learn basic Bible truths daily through the use of manipulatives and simple songs to help impart that GOD made everything, GOD sent Jesus because He loves them, and they can love GOD and love GOD’s Word. We use CRC Publications’ GOD Loves Me Curriculum to present many of our Bible stories.

Developmentally appropriate art activities reinforce each Bible story. This enhances the development of fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, color recognition, and creative expression.

Preschool

The preschool class introduces children to the structure of a classroom, equipping them for success in Pre-K and beyond. Each week, a new thematic unit is introduced, and classroom activities are built around that theme. Our Surrey Hills Preschool students also participate in music and science every week.

Circle Time

We begin each day with teacher-directed Circle Time. All students gather to learn new math, language, spelling/handwriting, and reading readiness skills. Circle Time allows concepts to be introduced to the whole class while building a sense of community in the classroom.

Learning Centers

Learning centers provide opportunities for continued learning through age-appropriate developmental play. Centers include Bible, free art, math, play-dough, writing, blocks, home living, discovery, library, and the sensory table. Our students learn how to listen, respect others, share, and resolve conflict.

Author Study

We dedicate time throughout the year to read books by a well-known children’s author. All learning centers and activities are based on characters and themes of these books.

Pre-K

Our Pre-K program provides a learning platform for all learning styles preparing our students for Kindergarten and equipping them for success. Our Surrey Hills Pre-K students also participate in music and science every week.

Circle Time

Pre-K students start their days with favorite songs and dancing. They move directly into Circle Time to learn math, language, handwriting, and reading readiness skills. As with the preschool class, the Pre-K students get Learning Center time for age-developmental play. Centers include math, science, sensory table, STEM, free-art, writing, library, home living, SMARTboard, and Bible.

Language and Reading Readiness

Pre-K students learn language skills using both whole-language and phonics. We introduce the characters of Letterland® as students begin to recognize letters and the sounds each one represents. ABC “homework” (finding things at home that start with the letter of the week) while working with Handwriting Without Tears®, Energizing Readiness, and Wright Skills  supports emerging literacy skills.

Math

Growing with Mathematics allows math concepts to be integrated into many activities in the classroom. Focused math skills include calendar, sorting, collecting, comparing, counting groups, positional language, and measurement.

Guidance & Discipline

There is so much fun going on in our classrooms, we rarely experience discipline problems. If we sense a problem emerging, our teachers may model conflict resolution techniques and alternatives, remove an object of contention, redirect or divert a child’s attention, speak to a child off to the side, or help a child take a few minutes to regroup.

We use Love and Logic in the classroom to help our students make good choices considering the logical consequences of their choices. On rare occasions, a child may stay with the director for a short time so as not to disrupt the class. A parent will be notified by the teacher if a child has spent time away from the classroom.

Parent Communication

Parents are updated on activities and progress with our monthly PURR newsletter, weekly Scoop email, parent-teacher conferences, and benchmark documentation.
